This was the most difficult commission I have done to date. A dear lady asked me to make something out of the mittens and baby bonnet she had bought for her grandchild. Tragically her grandchild was stillborn and she had kept the items she had bought for him. She really wanted to have a cushion, something to hold.. but as the pieces were tiny I suggested that a pale, soft coloured cloth be added as a background for the items to be stitched on to. ( Where possible I like all the material to come from cherished pieces) Despite them being so small I still de-constructed and re-constructed them in to new shapes. When she opened the cushion she cried, she held on to the cushion so tightly and said ‘ I can hold him now’. no words… .
The very special pair of mittens and bonnet bought for a dear grandchild.
